Kudzu (pueraria) is a plant with a thousand-year history of use in China and Japan. In Eastern medical treatises, it was described as a remedy for women's health, skin rejuvenation, and energy restoration. Today, its isoflavones are recognized as a gentle and safe alternative to hormone therapy.
China and Japan
Pueraria lobata (Ge Gen in Chinese traditional medicine, 葛根) is one of the oldest plants in Eastern herbalism.
In China, it was used over 2,000 years ago; references are found in the Shennong Bencao Jing (The Classic of Herbs of Shennong, 1st-2nd centuries AD).
It was used to:
reduce fever and alleviate symptoms of "inner fire";
treat hangovers (traditionally, in Japan and China, kudzu was used as an antidote to alcohol);
improve vascular function and relieve headaches;
relax muscles and relieve spasms.
In Japan, kudzu became a cult plant:

Kudzu roots contain isoflavones (phytoestrogens): daidzein, genistein, and puerarin.
